Just a few miles outside Rome you’ll discover another world: the Castelli Romani! Translated as “the Castles of Rome”, the Castelli Romani are thirteen hill towns nestled in the Alban Hills that you can discover on this VIP driving tour.

Your journey to the Castelli Romani by private car begins with a picturesque 30-mile journey from Rome to the Alban Hills. On the way, your driver-guide will tell you about the unique culture and gastronomy of the Castelli Romani, including the local wines.

The first stops will be the lovely towns of Frascati and Marino, which are famous for their excellent white wines (Frascati Superiore and Fontana di Papa). During lunch at a local restaurant, you will have the chance to sample these glorious wines and learn more about their prestige. Next, you will see Nemi – a medieval village famed throughout Italy for its violets and wild strawberries. Along the way, you will admire the stunning views of Lake of Albano and the Lake of Nemi, before concluding with visits to the towns of Grottaferrata (with its famous Abbey of San Nilo, founded in 1004 and surrounded by Renaissance walls) and Castel Gandolfo. The latter is home to the Pope’s summer residence and has an especially stunning view over the lake.

About the Castelli Romani

The Castelli Romani, or Castles of Rome, are thirteen hill-top towns located outside of Rome in the Alban Hills. Each town has its own unique culture, architecture and gastronomy, making a day tour of the region a particular special experience. Being rich in fertile, volcanic soil, the Castelli Romani produce some glorious wines, including Frascati, which was one of the earliest Italian wines to achieve DOC status.
