About Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and stretches out over seven hills. One of the hills is the home of the famous Edinburgh Castle, where the apartments of Queen Mary I of Scotland are located. From the castle, you can take in a stunning view of the New Town and the Firth of Forth estuary.
In the centre of the city, you can find Princes Street, which is the main shopping area. Here, you can find the Princes Street Gardens, which house the Floral Clock – an emblem of the city. There is also some wonderful architecture to enjoy here, with Gothic and Georgian examples creating a contrasting cityscape. We also highly recommend visiting the National Art Gallery of Scotland on the Mount in central Edinburgh.
For an original experience, visit Mary King’s Close, which is an underground labyrinth of alleys and houses that date to the 18th and 19th centuries. It sits under the Edinburgh City Chambers on the Royal Mile in the Old Town. While on the Royal Mile, visit the Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Palace and, if you have time, take a gentle walk up Arthur’s Seat hill.
Finally, no trip to Scotland would be complete without learning more about Scottish whisky. We recommend visiting the Scotch Whisky Experience Museum in Edinburgh, which sits at the foot of Castle Hill. You can enjoy a tasting session here, or head to one of the many whisky bars for an authentic experience.
