AboutĀ Zermatt
Zermatt is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It lies at the upper end of Mattertal at an elevation of 1,620m, at the foot of Switzerland’s highest peaks.
Zermatt is famed as a mountaineering and ski resort, but until the mid-19th century, it was predominantly an agricultural community. However, over the years, it has become popular with tourists, who choose it as a base from which to explore the Matterhorn, one of the most famous mountains of the Alps.
While exploring the Matterhorn dominates experiences from Zermatt, there are other attractions that you may like to visit and explore. Take a ride on the Gornergrat railway for lovely mountain views and enjoy a walking tour of the five main lakes that surround Zermatt. Alternatively, if you want to find out more about the Matterhorn, visit the Matterhorn Museum, which has a fabulous multimedia room and also finds from the first ascent of the Matterhorn.
