About Normandy

D-Day, which took place on June 6th 1944, is remembered as one of the biggest military operations in history and marks the day that the Allied forces turned a corner in the direction of ending World War II. On that day, 150,000 soldiers from the US, Canada and the UK invaded Normandy to begin the liberation of Europe from the Nazis.

Today, the beaches of Normandy stand as a testimony to the bravery of the soldiers and visiting them is a thought-provoking and emotional experience. Sword Beach, Juno Beach, Gold Beach, Omaha Beach and Utah Beach are those most involved in the D-Day landings, with the latter hosting a D-Day museum. There is also a military cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer that honors American troops who died in Europe in World War II.
