About the Lake District
The Lake District is a national park in the northwest of England that is known for its rugged landscape and breath-taking lakes.
There are several cities and towns in the Lake District that you can discover on a tour of the region. Kendal is one of the more popular destination as it boasts many cultural events, including theater shows and festivals. The Brewery Arts Centre and Abbot Hall Art Gallery are particularly well regarded for their exhibitions. If you want to discover some of the local architecture, we recommend Kendal Castle, which is perched on a hill and offers an exceptional view.
Other popular stops are Keswick, Ullswater, Coniston and Honister. These towns are a particularly good choice for walking and hiking (“The Old Man of Coniston” offers a particularly nice hill-walk). There are also several distilleries in this region, where you can learn more about whisky, gin and vodka production or, for something very different, visit the atypical Pencil Museum in Keswick.
For a little more history, Coniston is a must. This village is surrounded by lakes, mountains, waterfalls, mountains and woods, and offers the opportunity to hike beautifully, including the Hill “The old Man of Coniston” and the Tarn Hows.
Another popular city is Ambleside as it was home to the famous author Beatrix Potter, who wrote beloved children’s books, such as Peter Rabbit. You can visit Hill Top House (where she lived), as well as the Armitt Museum, Gallery & Library, the Beatrix Potter Gallery and Hawshead to find out more about the author. There’s also the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Windermere, where you’ll also find Wray Castle and lots of family-friendly activities.
