About Galway
Galway is a city in the province of Connacht, County Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. It is nicknamed the “City of the Tribes” as it was once ruled by 14 tribes during the Anglo-Norman era.
Galway is a vibrant destination in the summer and is famous for its festivals. Popular events include The Galway Sessions, Galway Early Music Festival, Trad on the Prom and the epic Christmas market.
Aside from its fun atmosphere, Galway has some unique architecture to discover. Indeed, the historic cityscape has Spanish influences, an example of which is the famous Spanish Arch. The religious buildings are also particularly imposing, with the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas being a popular attraction. Other must-sees include the Galway Museum, which is devoted to the traditions of Galway, and the Nora Barnacle Museum, which is a small seasonal museum dedicated to James Joyce, one of Ireland’s greatest writers. The museum is located in the former home of Nora Barnacle, the artist’s wife.
