About Alberobello
Located in the south of Italy, Alberobello is a unique village famous for its fascinating and enchanting trulli.
Trulli are small houses with a white circular base and a cunic roof. They are decorated with primitive, magical or religious symbols that are supposed to protect the family. Their unique construction was actually an effort by local farmers in the region to avoid a tax that was payable on all “stable” structures. As the trulli were considered “unstable”, the tax was not payable.
There are several trulli that you really shouldn’t miss. Rullo Sovrano is the largest trulli in Alberobello, measuring 14m in height, and is the only one to have a floor and a staircase.
Meanwhile, San Antonio Church is a charming trulli church.
In terms of neighborhoods, Aia Piccola is the most magical – some of the trulli here are still inhabited! Meanwhile, Monti is the tourist district of the village, where you can buy souvenirs.
