About Agrigento
Agrigento is a Sicilian city best known as being the home of the Valley of the Temples – the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas. The valley is a vast archaeological site and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It boasts twelve temples built at the time of Ancient Greece, making it a rare treat for those interested in ancient history. The best preserved are the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Heracles and the Temple of Zeus.
While the Valley of the Temples is certainly a must-see, the city of Agrigento also has some charming attractions that you can enjoy on a walking tour, such as the Holy Spirit Monastery, the Cathedral of San Gerlando and the Episcopal Palace. For a unique experience, leave Agrigento and visit nearby Realmonte, where you can visit the famous Stairs of the Turks (Scala dei Turchi), which is a rocky cliff made of limestone that flow dramatically into the sea.
